Gasometer is courteous in that it joins a former condition, that of gas storage tanks, with new conditions - that of residential housing, two lower levels of retail, and an adjacent transit hub - in a non-confrontational manner. This is programmatic and time-based diplomacy. The four architects - Jean Nouvel, Coop Himmelbalu, Manfred Wehdorn, and Wilhelm Holzbauer - were each charged with designing a single gasometer, but all had to lend a vision to the unified whole.
