US Embassy, Baghdad - The construction of the US embassy in Baghdad (post invasion) was controversial due to allegations of unethical practices in human trafficking, massive cost overruns, long delays and structural problems. The 10 square km compound is located in the "Green Zone" near the old palace, also referred to as the International Zone of Baghdad. Since the handover of sovereignty to Iraqi security in 2009, many facilities now belong to the new Iraqi government.
