Impede | Thin | Effective?

NYTimes At the Border, on the Night Watch

Over the past decade the US Government has cracked down on illegal border crossings, drastically reducing the number trespassers to the single digits each day. Ten years ago people were crossing over in groups of 30, 50, and even 100, overwhelming the border patrol and their capability to maintain a "locked" border.

This video shows the physical constructs the government has developed for apprehension in those thinking or trying to cross.

“When you say ‘wall,’ I say ‘fence,’ ” said Mr. Escalante, who grew up along the Texas border but has spent the bulk of his career in southern Arizona. “When you think wall, you think Berlin, China. You think of a big structure you can’t get across.”
