Spaces of Diplomacy + Diller Scofidio + Renfro

I am interested to hear if anyone else has thoughts on the Diller Scofidio + Renfro lecture.
I think they are touching on a lot of ideas the thesis seminar has been investigating.
Here is my response to the lecture and its posted here: http://arch1080.wordpress.com/2011/10/22/taking-pulse/
Agree, disagree, deny, persuade me.  Its all on the table. Thanks!

  1. Branden,

I too was intrigued by the way Diller Scofidio + Renfro work's relate closely to what we have been researching and looking at for the past two months in thesis. One project in particular that stuck out for me was the installation of the 'Bubble' at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden on the Washington Mall in Washington D.C. How the idea engages, relates, or contradicts the existing structure of the museum to create a new space and experience. I think this relates well with the blog you posted; Corporation | Extruded | Antithesis. How you had discussed the architectural differences in the construction and material relations of projects from SHoP Architects and Herzog and de Mueron with their 'podium + cap' buildings.
