The Haus des Meeres agaurium in Vienna makes use of an abandoned German flaktower from WWII. Opened in 1957, the facility strikes a balance between the horrors of war and the ability to re-purpose such places for the sake of public well being. That balance however does not come without a violent breech into the face and top of the concrete structure by the Viennese people, domesticating a space built to withstand most forms of destruction.
